What is an IOP - Intensive Outpatient Program?

An Intensive outpatient program (IOP) provides a highly structured treatment program that addresses Substance Use Disorder (SUD) issues and relapse prevention. Individuals may transition to an IOP after completing detoxification and/or inpatient programs, or they may begin their treatment in an IOP.

IOPs offer a higher level of intensity than standard outpatient individual treatment, but a lower level than inpatient rehab. In an inpatient program, individuals live and sleep at a facility. Inpatient treatment provides 24/7 care and round-the-clock monitoring and support in a structured, substance-free environment. Additionally, inpatient rehabs may offer medically managed detoxification services, which may be necessary for individuals struggling with acute withdrawal. On the other hand, an IOP allows individuals to live and sleep at home or in a sober living residence and visit the facility to attend counseling and therapy sessions, allowing individuals to continue fulfilling responsibilities at home, school, and work while in treatment.

The actual treatment services rendered in both inpatient programs and IOPs are nearly identical or very similar. However, the cost of an IOP program is significantly less than an inpatient program since IOPs do not include room and board. Additionally, research indicates that there are no significant differences in treatment outcomes between those who complete an inpatient program and those who only attend an IOP.

At GreenLifeIOP, we specialize in Intensive Outpatient and Outpatient levels of care. We treat adults 18 years and older, who are struggling with substances and who do not require medical detoxification or 24-hour supervision, or may have already completed detox and/or residential treatment, and are now returning to their home setting. GreenLifeIOP's programs include personalized treatment planning, individual and group counseling, behavioral therapy, psychoeducation, relapse prevention techniques, and more.

The minimum requirement for a participant to attend an IOP program is to receive treatment at least 9 hours per week, delivered in 3 x 3-hour sessions. At GreenLifeIOP, we provide group counseling 5 days a week Monday through Friday, both mornings and evenings. This schedule allows our Clients to attend as much as 25 hours of counseling each week and provides maximum flexibility based on each individual's life obligations. Our clients will learn to recognize and address the emotions and behaviors behind their substance use, adopt new strategies to cope, solve problems, and navigate day-to-day triggers and situations.

Our goal is to help our Clients have the best possible care and the best possible chance of living a positive, productive life free of drug addiction, alcoholism, and other substance use issues. We believe that Recovery is the opportunity to create a life of emotional balance where addictive substances and compulsive behaviors are no longer necessary.
